Location: various Residential Children's Homes across Aberdeen City
Duration: Permanent, Full Time

Residential Practitioner G12 £29110 - £33169 per annum

To deliver a statutory social work service to promote and protect the welfare of vulnerable service users, their families and carers in need of care and/or protection. Creating an environment where each service user is enabled to maximise their potential and to contribute to the service users’ social, physical and mental wellbeing and promote active citizenship in a holistic way.

Trainee Residential Practitioner G11 £25531 - £29090 per annum

To assist in the delivery of a statutory social work service to promote and protect the welfare of children and young people in the care of the local authority. Support activities may include intervention with their families and carers. Assist in creating an environment where each young person is enabled to maximise their potential and to contribute to their’ social, physical and emotional wellbeing and promote active citizenship in a holistic way. Care will be delivered as part of a team, where practice reflects a therapeutic ethos of care.

To provide development for the jobholder to gain the professional residential qualification within the time scale stipulated by the SSSC.

Requirements

Residential Practitioner
The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:
CQSW/Diploma in Social Work
SVQ Level 9 Residential Care or willingness to work towards in accordance with SSSC registration requirements
SSSC Registration or equivalent
Protection of Vulnerable Group Check (PVG)

Trainee Residential Practitioner
The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:
HNC Social Care/Childcare and Education or equivalent
Ability to attain SQA Level 9 Residential Care within the timescale stipulated by SSSC
Registration with SSSC
Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme Record (PVG)

Responsibilities

The post holder is expected to demonstrate:

Sound and current knowledge of theory and practice relevant to children and families
Ability to work effectively within a team and with a wide range of professionals to improve outcomes for children and young people
Ability to assess and manage risk
The ability to assess and communicate effectively with children and young people
Interviewing and investigation skills
Ability to support others to develop independent living skills including budgeting, wellbeing and education/learning and employability
Ability to manage constant and often conflicting demands
Ability to make decisions and take responsibility for own practice, seeking advice and support as necessary
Ability to accurately record and maintain Care First records
Ability to manage priorities, time and meet deadlines
Ability to develop, monitor and evaluate agreed outcomes
Advocate on behalf of children and young people by ensuring that their views are taken into account and that their rights are promoted and protected
Attention to detail; specifically the administration of service users’ medication, financial responsibilities and recording
