Research Scientist: Shimadzu Research Laboratory (Europe) Ltd
Based in Trafford Park, Manchester, the traditional home of scientific research and birthplace of Mass Spectrometry, Shimadzu Research Laboratory (SRL) is the European R&D centre for the Shimadzu Group of Companies. SRL are currently looking to hire a talented Research Scientist!
SRL’s mission is customer focused innovation and targeted R&D in LCMS and associated data Informatics, helping Shimadzu Corporation achieve sustained global growth in analytical instrumentation markets. LCMS is applied to a diverse and expanding array of applications across established and emerging markets. SRL engages with a network of researchers and collaborators in Europe and the US to create new synergies and new business opportunities. SRL operates open innovation and although the LCMS business is SRL’s current focus, expansion into other areas of research is underway. Ideas generated by researchers are quickly evaluated through modelling and prototyping. Commercially viable technologies are transferred to the parent company for product development.
Researchers at SRL, in addition to having a sound education in physics or chemistry to PhD level, must be creative, innovative and adaptable. Research activities are organised into focused multi-disciplinary, researcher lead projects. Aspects of the research is protected by patent or published at international conferences and in academic journals.
SRL is now recruiting a Research Scientist. The role will initially involve aspects of hardware design, prototype construction, computer modelling and proving concepts by experiment. Good teamworking and communication skills are essential. Training and experience in formal project management methodologies is highly desirable.
