Applications are invited from enthusiastic candidates for the post of Research Fellow based at the Department of Orthopaedics, Golden Jubilee National Hospital. These posts are suitable for qualified doctors at any stage of training, who are seeking experience in an established research environment. An interest in orthopaedic surgery is desirable

The post-holder will be actively involved in the planning, design, organisation, carrying out, analysis and dissemination of musculoskeletal-related research. This may be a self-selected project or can be allocated by the Orthopaedic Department. The unit has an established academic link to the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde and strong connections with the University of Glasgow School of Medicine offering the potential for both clinical and laboratory-based projects and registration for a higher degree. In addition, the hospital has recently installed a state-of-the-art motion analysis laboratory for research purposes.

The post will also include regular clinical duties, contributing to the day time ward and clinic rota and the 1 in 12 out of hours hospital at night rota. It may be necessary to assist in orthopaedic elective theatres, providing the opportunity to maintain and develop surgical skills and the opportunity to work with high volume surgeons in one of the largest lower limb arthroplasty centres in the UK. The successful candidate may wish to register for a postgraduate higher degree.

The post is for a fixed term of 6 or 12 months in the first instance. The post will start in August 2019. Fellows who undertake this post during Higher Surgical Training may have it recognised as out of programme research (OOPR) with retention of their NTN. The post is not educationally approved.
