JOB: Research & Development Chemist

STATUS: Permanent

LOCATION: North Yorkshire

SALARY: Circa £30k+

My client is seeking to appoint a Research and Development Chemist with FORMULATION EXPERIENCE.

This role is extremely varied and interesting - you are involved from start to finish with your own products and you become an "expert" on your particular product/formulation.

A background in paints/sealings/coatings/composites/adhesives is preferred.

A Certificate in Coatings Technology would be preferred, but not essential.

You need to have a background in formulation - my client will want you to "evidence" previous work.

This is a role where you will be really "hands-on" with the product.

You will be working as part of an existing team of R&D Chemists on the development of new and innovative repair solutions for arduous industrial environments.

This is a laboratory-based position, but there may be occasional overseas travel in order to support Global partners.

You will have responsibility for the development of new polymeric solutions for arduous industrial environments. This will involve the design and lab-scale manufacture of coatings and repair composites, and subsequent testing to validate product performance.

Design and lab-scale manufacture of polymeric coatings and repair composites, and subsequent lab testing to verify required performance, e.g. resistance to corrosion/high temperatures/abrasion/chemical attack

Validation of new product performance via coordination of field trials and external testing with industry approved test houses and distributors and clients

Requirements

    • Whilst a Degree is desirable, it is not essential - relevant experience, with expert formulation knowledge, is more important. It is imperitive that you have a good knowledge of formulating industrial coatings, composites or adhesives.

    • Proven track record of innovation

    • Knowledge of polymer technologies used in industrial coatings and repair materials

    • Good practical "hands-on" lab skills working with polymers and coatings

    • Knowledge of coating/composite performance testing techniques, e.g. immersion resistance, adhesion, heat resistance, impact resistance, etc

    • Strong interpersonal skills and a confident communicator/presenter with colleagues, distributors and clients

    • Organised and responsive, and puts a high priority on "getting the job done"

    • Team player with good initiative and a flexible approach to work

    • Capable of preparing detailed technical reports with precise summaries

    • IT literate

    • Available for occasional overseas travel to support global partners

The "ideal candidate" will have a PhD or MSc in Chemistry/Polymer Chemistry and possess a good knowledge of formulating industrial coatings, composites or adhesives.

Alternatively, you will have a BSc degree in Chemistry/Polymer Chemistry and be able to demonstrate expert formulation knowledge.

You must be able to show a proven track record of innovation; have excellent hands-on laboratory skills; good communication and interpersonal skills; have a keen eye for detail; and be able to show a good understanding of the different polymer technologies used within the industrial coatings and repair industry.

If you feel that this is the role you have been seeking, please let me have your CV as soon as possible.
