Our client is a global leader in the development of polymer resins for use in a wide range of applications for extraction, separation and purification. Due to continued expansion in their Life Sciences division they are now recruiting for an R&D Scientist to develop new agarose resin products for use in the downstream processing of biopharmaceuticals as a chromatography media and to modify existing products for specific customer needs to produce custom designed media.

Primarily the focus will be on developing both new agarose beads and ligand functionality, including affinity chromatography media, before transferring the products to pilot and full-scale manufacturing. As well as working on new synthetic routes, methods of QA/QC are to be developed which are predominantly chromatography based.



PhD degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Biochemistry or related subject. Experience in developing new synthetic routes and wet chemistry techniques.

Experience in chromatography applications such as HPLC or FPLC including method development.

Able to write scientific and technical reports and has good oral presentational skills

Good communication skills are essential as role requires co-ordination of work with others.

Able to handle hazardous chemicals safely.

Use of MS office, project management and scientific computer software.


Knowledge of different particle sizing techniques.

Experience in developing test methods (QA/QC).

Knowledge of ISO9001/14001.

At least 3 years industrial experience.

Knowledge or experience of downstream process chromatographic material.
