Job Description: Research Analyst

London-based hedge fund looking to hire an experienced investment analyst to support the research and idea generation process. The firm focuses predominantly on equity investments across sectors. This individual will work with an experienced team in a collaborative environment.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Interface with sell side research, industry participants and company representatives to screen investment ideas and help manage information flow with them
  • Review & analyse research materials on companies, sectors and economic trends
  • Perform industry/sector analysis
  • Conduct investment forecasting and valuation analyses
  • Monitoring markets
  • Gathering market data and preparing screens to track and analyse trends in stocks
  • Updating and preparing in-house valuation models
  • Generate trading ideas for the team through research
  • Compliance related reporting
  • Assist in other projects and duties as requested
  • Maintain databases and trading systems

Qualifications/Skills Required

  • Candidates must have a First Class Honours Degree in Business or Finance
  • Extensive industry experience working within a Hedge Fund environment,
  • Detailed knowledge of European and American listed names in the following sectors: Chemicals, Mining, Steel, Pulp and Paper & Marine
  • Experience valuing, analysing, and trading stocks in those sectors
  • Previous experience within M&A is essential, being part of a team involved in international transactions including the bid processes, undertaking valuations and building models including debt amortisation
  • Candidate must have strong working knowledge of Bloomberg and Data Stream
  • Demonstrate strong Excel skills
  • Significant financial modeling experience is essential
  • Candidates must be thorough, tenacious and resourceful
  • Quick Learner, detail oriented; Demonstrates thoroughness and strong ownership of work
  • Good team player with a strong willingness to participate and help others
  • Able to prioritize in a fast moving, high pressure, constantly changing environment; Good sense of urgency
  • Strong communication skills
