Scientific Engagement Officer - Meat Alternatives

Location: Remote, Europe-based

Salary: £35K - £50K

The industry that’s grown from humanity’s obsession with all things fleshy is now one of the most damaging to our planet.

Deforestation to grow feed, methane-accelerated climate change, animals reared in awful conditions that increase risk of disease for animals and humans alike, then there’s the poor-quality, anti-biotic laden produce that needs chlorinating just to be made safe…

What if you could join a team with a mission to overhaul humanity’s approach to consuming meat?

How about enabling behaviour change through advocacy, influencing policy and driving the world’s smartest people towards working on more sustainable options?

This globally dispersed team are an incredibly dedicated bunch of specialists, scientists, campaigners and industry experts who are committed to accelerating the alternative-meat revolution, and they need to beef-up (yeah, I just wrote that) their SciTech team with someone who will use their scientific credibility and passion for the cause to drive engagement in the scientific, philanthropic, government agency and wider community.

You’ve probably studied intensely within food-science or biotech for some time earning a masters or even a PhD. Maybe you’ve worked on tackling these problems first-hand or have a background in the fermentation industry but have a deep passion for food sustainability and/or animal welfare. Either way you’ve dedicated many-an-hour to changing peoples minds and shifting their hearts.

You’ll be attending conferences, writing thought pieces, pitching for funding, engaging the scientific community to push the meat-alternative debate higher up the agenda and working with research teams across the globe.

You’ll also engage with legislators, lobbyists, policy advocates, businesses, MEPs and national equivalents, with regular appearances on the radio and TV likely.

You’ll also visit universities to inspire the next generation of researchers and change-makers while building relationships with businesses that can help facilitate the above

In return you’ll be given the flexibility to work how you work best, defining your own strategy and operating in a largely autonomous capacity. It’s a reasonably blank slate with a framework in place to use as guidance if needed.

You can work from anywhere in Europe and will be paid up to £50K (or local equivalent) with 28 days holiday (+ local bank holidays).

However, most importantly, you’ll be one of those rare heroes whose full-time day job it is to save the planet, and the people who live on it.

Sound good? Let’s get talking!
