The business is looking for a talented and experienced Regional Design Manager, to ensure an effective management of key global projects. This role will manage a team of System and Automation Engineers and take full commercial and technical ownership of complex strategic customer projects.
About the role
The Regional Design Manager is responsible for achieving the project’s objectives. S/he works closely will take full commercial and technical ownership of allocated customer projects from receipt of enquiry to the developed design; including scope, schedule resource, and budget commitments reflected in the Project Management Plan
The Regional Design Manager will lead the System and Automation Engineering team. Will also ensure the team are developed in line with the business and individual needs.
This role will report to the VP Global Customer Projects.
·Take full commercial and technical ownership of allocated customer projects from receipt of enquiry to the developed design; including scope, schedule resource, and budget commitments reflected in the Project Management Plan
·Be the single point of engineering design contact for the customer, including site attendance as required; Implement and enforce change control over project scope, schedule, resources and budget.
·Develop engineering capability of themselves and the wider team;
·Develop and manage the project design programme; including manage the timely resolution of issues, including the escalation of issues that are outside of the project team’s scope of responsibility.
·Update project design forecast each month in line with finance department requirements;
·Provide full commercial management of the design phase of the works;
·Provide specification, network topologies, points schedules, description of operations, containment drawings and electrical wiring schematics for the respective designs;
·Support to the bid process on the specific designs that have been developed;
·Developing and maintaining key customer relationships to deliver increased sales;
·Support to other members of the Operational Team to ensure absences are covered and workload met. Support to other areas of the business as needs dictate;
·To work to existing procedures and assist in setting and establishing new operating procedures.
·Ensure that any new opportunities uncovered are actioned as appropriate and directed to the Commercial Department to increase orders
·Continually identify and proactively manage project risks & issues, ensure execution of corrective action plans up to closure. Monitor the project and report the project status to the management on a regular basis.
·Negotiate with functional managers and/or organizational management to obtain adequate resources with appropriate skills to staff the project team.

The ideal candidate will have engineering experience in the sector and/or will be educated to degree level in an Engineering Discipline. This experience will include Project Design Management of large and critical buildings with sub-contract installation packages and PLC/BMS design/installation experience.
You will be able to develop procedures and processes and have good leadership skills including, employee mentoring and development and the ability to empower others through delegating responsibility. As well as leadership of project design management teams.
The post will require some travel outside of home area to sites/clients meeting as required.
The Regional Design Manager will have has a working knowledge of the technical and organizational environments in which the project deliverables are created and in which they will be used. The Project Manager must be an excellent communicator at all levels within the project environment, be proactive, exhibit strong leadership qualities and be able to adapt to a dynamic and potentially geographically disbursed project environment
Advantage to have experience in construction project management.
