Property & Service Charge Accountant

The main purpose of this role is to set-up the accounting system to process property income and expenses. You will be responsible for all aspects of financial accounting for a portfolio of investment properties, ensuring compliance with each individual tenancy agreement.

Client Details

My client is a Property Management company based in Central London.



Raise invoices for periodic rent, service charges and insurance to tenants

Raise invoices for directly recoverable and ad hoc charges to tenants

Raise invoices to recover void/vacant service charges from the landlord

Prepare regular tenant account reconciliations and resolve any issues

Credit control of tenant accounts and chase any overdue amounts

Liaise with tenants regarding any invoicing queries and to ensure prompt payment of invoice demands

Review, authorise and process data entry of purchase invoices for all property and service charge expenses

Prepare payment schedules for all property and service charge expenses

Prepare and reconcile annual service charge accounts and raise balancing charges/allowances to tenants

Monitor and report against service charge

Carry out annual property service charge reviews and liaise with the Property Manager to assist in setting service charge budgets

Accurately process VAT on sales and purchase invoices

Prepare VAT reports to feed in to quarterly VAT Returns to HMRC

Accurately process collection of monies from tenants, and payment of expense invoices

Transfer tenant income to the landlords' bank accounts as required

Prepare bank account reconciliations

Liaise with the management accounts team to ensure that cash-flow/funding for each property is adequate

Maintain accurate tenant deposit account records and manage the transfer of deposits to the Tenant Deposit Scheme

Assist the management accounting team in preparation of annual Non-Resident Landlord tax returns

Assist the management accounts team in preparation of quarterly management accounts and annual financial accounts, and liaising with the auditors as required



Minimum accounting qualification: AAT or Part-Qualified CIMA

Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV and JET Reports software beneficial but not essential

Minimum 3-5 years commercial property accounting experience in a client facing role

Knowledge and experience of setting up tenant & property accounting records

Commercial & residential property accounting knowledge

Experience processing and managing Service Charges

Competent application of treatment for VAT incurred on property transactions

Job Offer

Between £30,000 - £40,000 + study support + benefits
