Project Engineering Manager - Food Manufacturing

Location: Derbyshire

Salary: £60-70,000+ benefits

Our Client is one of the UK’s top 15 food companies and one of Europe’s leading food manufacturers. With over 1000 people on site and a multitude of exciting CAPEX and site projects we are seeking a special individual to take this role and shape it into their own in a standalone role.


The role:

To gain a full understanding of the sector of the food industry that they operate in.

To carry out initial feasibility studies into plant, processes and facilities and prepare an initial design brief in consultation with Production, Technical and Process Service departments. To justify to Senior Management capital expenditure by the preparation of technical and financial cases reflecting profitability, financial gains and market demands. To prepare a detailed cost estimation for each scheme for submission with the above.

The control and organisation of technical work to frame effective specifications enquiry and tender documents for plant, services, equipment, installations and building works.

To specify and finalise design criteria and layout of all associated mechanical, civil, electrical and process control requirements. To prepare the project installation and commissioning programme with respect to equipment lead times, stock level demands and release of production/site area to minimise downtime.

Following project approval, procure equipment on technical, commercial and safety merits. Where necessary carry out preliminary acceptance and performance trials at the manufacturer's premises.

To supervise project implementation, liaising with supplier and contractors to ensure delivery, terms of payment, guarantees standard of workmanship and compliance with terms of the contract.

To commission new plant, ensuring compliance with design parameters and instruct operatives in the correct use of plant etc.

To ensure tight financial control of expenditure by the use of approved cost tracking systems.

To look for new methods of improving facilities by using technical knowledge and experience whilst maintaining links with equipment suppliers and users.

To provide professional and technical support to management in the solution of engineering problems.

Implement Health & Safety, Hygiene and Security guidelines/procedures associated with all Project Engineering Works.

To work in a manner that actively seeks to reduce any negative environmental impact in relation to the processes and procedures operating within their area and across the wider business e.g. reduction of waste, recycling etc.

The person:

Degree in a relevant engineering discipline or proven experience/ ability in a similar role.

A detailed engineering knowledge of modern food production processes in a continuous process environment.

Good working knowledge of associated disciplines including Project Management, Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering and Food Safety.

Experience of working with engineering contractors

Experience of balancing a fast paced large workload

Detailed knowledge of utility and services installation.

High degree of IT Literacy.

Excellent Communication Skills.

Leadership ability.

Robust & flexible approach.

Clean driving licence
