Project Engineer

£40,000 - £45,000 Basic Salary + Training + Very Competitive Package

Locations: Bedford, St Neots, Cambridge, Peterborough.

The company supplies customers with tailored solutions for driving, controlling and moving - for industrial applications and factory automation, mobile applications and the renewable energy sector.

The Role
The commercial and technical management of any resulting contractual realisation of the electro – hydraulic design. With technical responsibility, providing sound and timely decisions providing approvals, verification and validation process. The provision of instruction and brief to those acting upon the design including necessary review to expedite solution to the instruction provided. To contribute to the delivery of electro – hydraulic systems design through undertaking an agreement of individual objectives, targets and success criteria including:

  • To produce and issue electro-hydraulic design solutions for the business:
    • Producing complete, accurate, clear design solutions without ambiguity in accordance with company standards
    • Producing complete, accurate, clear design briefs considering interfaces, constraints, features and boundaries without ambiguity in accordance with company standards
  • To keep up to date with new product developments in defined industry sector(s) in order to enhance business decision making by:
    • Maintaining a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of trends in Electro-Hydraulics and controls systems including design and manufacture, project management – systems engineering and methodology
    • Developing an understanding of the companies products and services, customers and competitors including the business environment
    • Sharing information and ideas to enable others to build their understanding of Electro-Hydraulics and control systems and the departments objectives
    • Analysing what is required to develop and deliver quotations and design solutions and meet department targets
  • To contribute to the overall department objectives and plan by:
    • Identifying and utilising opportunities and suggestions for growth
    • Proactively supporting industry sales objectives, customer sales enquiries and targeting potential customers
    • Agreeing job requirements and competencies, participating in relevant training and development programmes including performance reviews and associate surveys and to seek support as required
    • Monitoring and sharing of own progress and addressing any changes, taking corrective action as required
    • Communicating regularly with other associates, department and individuals involved in the business considering the design solutions produced so as to ensure rapid two way flow of information and immediate contribution to effective team working
  • To take joint responsibility for the planning of activities including time – delivery, and financial – cost, and quality are met by:
    • Contributing to the development of department objectives
    • Delivering activities to meet these objectives
    • Monitoring progress and addressing any variances/changes
    • Ensuring quality standards and customer requirements are met
  • To ensure efficient and effective utilisation of financial and physical resources are met by:
    • Maximising the use of resources and identifying and eliminating waste
    • Contributing to the setting of systems, policies, procedures including working instructions and standards, ensuring that they fit and – or enhance with others used in the business
    • Balancing cost or risk vs. benefit when specifying or recommending any changes
    • Ensuring time and overheads are correctly accounted for
    • Monitoring changes for cost and delivery implications, reviewing and communicating progress to effected departments and the customer
    • Tracking of commercial and technical performance of design solution to evaluate price or margin and ‘return on quotations’ to recommend improvements

Ideal Qualifications

  • HND Engineering or Equivalent
  • Minimum of ten years experience in relevant role – industry
  • Hydraulic Power Unit Design – Symbology, and Circuits
  • Hydraulic Power Unit Realisation – Methods of Manufacture, Test and Inspection
  • Hydraulic Power Unit Calculation and Application – Calculations, limits, performance, durability and risk
  • Conversant in Microsoft Office products
  • SAP R3 or similar integrated system
