Leading UK Engineering Consultancy, part of a global Group, is currently looking to appoint a Project Accountant to join its Project Controlling team to provide support to Project Managers on highly complex and high-risk projects.
The Project Accountant will:
- Control the estimate to completion of a project, recognise revenue, explain deviations and prepare provisions and non- standard accruals
- Be responsible for project risk management, WIP follow-up, write- downs, claims handling
- Have overall responsibility of risk assessment on project portfolio
- Manage a small team of 8 project coordinators
Specific responsibilities for the Project Accountant include:
Pre-project involvement
- Defining complex work breakdown structures and establishing
baseline WB and CB including REC budgets
- Involvement in the tender process, potentially including scenario modelling and review of pricing and risk
Cost controlling in projects
- Analysis and reporting on non-billable costs on projects
- Monthly project reviews with Business and/or RGLs to discuss deviations from project budgets
- Monthly deep dive reviews based on selection criteria
- Monthly meetings with Project Admin team to discuss escalated issues
- Report risk to RGLs and Project Risk Management team
Budget and revenue recognition reviews
- Reviews of cost-to-complete, correct revenue booked, deviations from project budgets, analysis of the WUWD on projects
Additional responsibilities for the Project Accountant include:
Working Capital Management
- Monitoring invoicing plans, project WIP balances and outstanding debt
- Project Provision - Claim/Bad Debt/WIP Provision
- Assisting in complex invoicing and debt issues
Special project reports and complex financial/system advisory
- Non-standard project reporting to senior management/clients and PMs
- High level advisory related to pricing of new activities, currency handling and design of financial processes on large projects
- Advice on budget breakdown structure, handling of claims and sub- contractors in relation to T&Cs
- Support projects requiring special care or governance - EU or JV
Education and process improvements
- Financial project management education to project managers, department managers and the project admin team
- Continuous focus on project controlling process improvements and alignment of methods
- Formal process of sharing ideas and defining new processes
- Monthly meetings with project coordinators
Suitable applicants for the Project Accountant position will:
- Be a Part-Qualified, Finalist or Fully Qualified Accountant
- Have significant project accounting experience
- Have a strong understanding of risk and process management
- Be able to manage multiple projects and budgets whilst maintaining accuracy ensuring completion within time, scope and budget
- Be open and flexible to travel to other UK offices
