**CALLING ALL PROGRAMME MANAGERS**

OVERVIEW:

A key client team member, a programme manager reports to senior staff and supervises the work of more junior team members. He/she is expected to:

· Have a firm grasp of the principles and practices of public relations: current

events, trends and issues, and their impact on the industry

· Be responsible for the development and execution of public relations programmes

· Develop client relationships

· Demonstrate sound ability to make decisions, which include consultation and

input from appropriate members of his or her team, the client and other

resources as appropriate

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Business Development

· Learn more about clients in a structured manner to better understand their goals and business strategies

· Remain alert to opportunities to provide additional services and communicate

these to senior staff

· Develop further business with clients, in conjunction with other team members

· Contribute to business development through research, brainstorming, programme and proposal writing, presenting and developing contacts

· Manage allocated client plans and new business proposals, with a high degree of

support

· With support, undertake simple business development projects to enhance the

company business model

· Present the company's credentials at informal meetings

· Be aware of the business strategy of your practice group and contribute to

delivering in line with it

Consulting Process

· Serve as day-to-day manager for client on accounts:

· Lead on medium-sized programmes, establishing position as key client contact, and ensure delivery on time, on budget and to a high standard of quality

· Flex style to different client styles and needs

· Understand client needs and constraints in order to offer achievable solutions

· Proactively identify client needs and employ expertise from across the network to meet them

· Learn to influence and negotiate with clients, opinion leaders, suppliers and

colleagues

· Conduct client meetings/teleconferences in absence of senior team members,

where appropriate

· Ensure appropriate client contact by junior team members

· Learn the basic principles of strategy and apply strategic thinking to own work

· Discuss and refine project briefs with the client

· Work with senior team members to manage client expectations and evaluate

programmes

· Write or draft communications programmes, media materials, correspondence etc

· Lead tactical implementation of events and programmes

· Conduct all forms of media pitches and follow-up calls, and/or build up relationships with target audiences

· Ensure quality control for own work and that of others on own programmes

Team Management

· Keep internal and external project team members up to date on project status

· Supervise work completed by programme executives and senior programme

executives, ensuring that they meet client brief and report progress to

manager(s)

· Provide guidance and coaching to junior staff within the group

· Provide simple, interactive internal training sessions in particular areas of

expertise, based on accurate interpretation of needs assessment

· Identify and pursue opportunities to collaborate with other practice groups and

companies within the network

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Technical

· Understanding of local and international regulations relating to industry to enable high-quality, compliant management of projects

· Proficiency in writing and editing documents

· Strong analytical capabilities

· Able to develop communication plans and/or programs

· Broad knowledge of media in the area of speciality, including established relationships with media representatives, as appropriate

· Ability to establish relationships with opinion leaders, as appropriate

· Intermediate presentation skills

· Ability to learn and apply business development skills

Consulting Process

· Ability to successfully manage the client-consultant relationship

· Ability to learn quickly about the needs of clients and their service

requirements

· Ability to establish client service objectives and create a plan to fulfill

these objectives

· Ability to identify, communicate about and propose solutions for any client

service problems that may arise

· Ability to manage day-to-day accounts, from mandate definition to budget development and through to invoicing, ensuring timely delivery to client deadlines.

· Ability to offer counsel to clients in many different situations

· Ability to manage relationships with suppliers and partners on clients’ behalf

Requirements

· College or university degree or equivalent

· At least four years’ work experience, including more than two years in public

relations or a relevant field

· Specialised field of knowledge, depending on practice group requirements

· Industry knowledge and familiarity with industry issues, as appropriate

· Strong network of contacts in public relations or relevant field
