Role:

To describe readership level and appropriateness of academic new title publications (both print and electronic formats) in support of the approval and new book announcement services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review from book-in-hand and verify the suitability of publication for academic libraries collections
  • Ability to describe the books in terms of subject and non-subject parameters
  • Accurately allocate books and notifications slips through the description process to libraries
  • Select significant or core titles from Book Award nominations for academic libraries
  • Present overview and demonstration of the profiling process to libraries and publisher representatives
  • Perform original and copy cataloguing as required
  • Assist in the training of other Profilers and Sales Managers

Skills & Experience:

  • Degree of equivalent experience
  • Subject knowledge (desirable) in either of the following fields:

a) Technical, Medical or Science, or

b) The Humanities

  • Working knowledge of second language beneficial
  • Able to communicate articulately and succinctly - strong verbal and writing skills
  • Experience with bibliography, publishing, academic libraries and higher education desirable
  • Detail knowledge of LC Subject Headings, Classifications and Dewey Decimal systems
  • Knowledge of the requirements of original cataloguing and MaRC records
  • Strong evaluation, analytical and decision-making skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft (Word, Excel)

Slaary is negotiable dependant on experience.
