Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Negotiating claims directly with counterparties, when required, and supporting negotiation to ensure efficient and competitive settlement. Identifying and investigating coverage issues.
Maintaining accurate reserving data and ensuring claims are handled within authority limits and in line with company procedures and guidelines.
Proactively liaising with Underwriters, Actuaries, Brokers, Reinsurers and other functional areas.
Directing, supervising and auditing lawyers and Third Party Loss Adjusters.
Developing and maintaining an in depth knowledge of case-law matters.
Producing accurate reports on claims and report back to senior management.
Responsibility for accurately assessing and spotting trends.
Working with Actuaries to streamline processes.
Assisting with the review of policies to ensure appropriate claims handling processes and strategies are in place.
Assisting with training and / or development of other team members, as necessary.
Key Technical Skills and Knowledge Required
Previous experience in handling, investigating and adjusting PI liability claims, including a sound knowledge and expertise in handling/resolving Solicitor PI claims.
Robust working knowledge of professional indemnity standards in the UK and Ireland. Detailed understanding of General Solicitor Liability and Insurance law. Understanding of relevant legal processes and procedures, litigation management, litigation avoidance techniques (e.g. mediation).
A recognised industry qualification (eg CIP/ACII) and/or suitable legal qualification strongly preferred.
Excellent practise of the claims handling process from notification to settlement and recovery.
Experience in auditing lawyers and Third Party Loss Adjusters.
