Product & VA/VE Engineer

Elmac Technologies is the acknowledged technical leader in the design and manufacture of flame arresters for a world-wide customer base. The business is headquartered at Holywell near Chester where our principal engineering and manufacturing facilities are also located.

We have recently launched new products and production volumes are expected to grow quickly and therefore are recruiting for a Product & VA/VE Engineer to join the existing team. The work will involve value engineering, provision of technical data (drawings) and issuance of work instructions for both new and existing products.

Reporting to the Head of Operations, the key responsibilities will include (but not be limited to) the following areas:

  • Development of original conceptual & prototype designs for full manufacture prior to launch of new ranges. Particular emphasis on cost reduction and ease of manufacture.

  • Advice on selection of components from the existing stock range for the production of prototypes.

  • Continuous VA/VE for both existing and new products.

  • Design of new products to support ease of manufacture.

  • Minimise the number of components by using standard components where possible

  • Completion and maintenance of product technical file drawings of both components and finished products.

  • Issuance and maintenance of production work instructions.

  • Work with the product development team (eg product testing) to establish product performance data.

  • Provide holiday cover for Product Engineering duties in ERP system by generating BOMs and routing.

The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate their skills and ability to include:

  • Being able to produce (relatively simple) componentry drawings in Autocad

  • Have experience of basic practical work (eg spanner, reading gauges)

  • Have experience of manufacturing processes; particularly machining of castings and welding.

  • Experience of working in a quality critical environment (eg ISO 9001 system)

  • Possession of excellent communication skills, especially written.

  • Be able to identify and implement product design improvements (eg component rationalisation, design for reduced assembly times etc)

  • Have the ability to work both alone and as part of a wider team

We are able to offer excellent working conditions and a generous remuneration package that includes working hours of 37.75/week with a 1pm finish on Friday's, 4.2 weeks annual leave (to start) plus statutory holidays, contributory pension scheme when eligible (matched contributions) plus an annual salary of c. £26,000 (doe).
