Product Design Manager

Our client is in the bespoke luxury goods industry, based in Ruislip.

Managing a Team of 3 product designers

Generally the role involves: ensuring all briefs are produced in the studio based on individuals strengths and skills, creating a workflow structure, reviewing daily work schedules of the department, ensuring work is delivered on deadline, compiling schedules, updating schedules regularly, keeping all departments informed about project status

Efficient verbal and written communication skills, excellent organisational skills, advanced knowledge of studio software, proven leadership skills and ability to meet deadlines whilst motivating a team with a wide variety of skill sets. You must also be able to think outside the box, have meticulous attention to detail and possess problem-solving skills

As the most senior member of the team you will lead the designers to sketch and create prototypes and models for production. They may use computer-aided design (CAD) programs to develop and modify their models prior to creation. You keep track of market trends, such as which designs are selling better in your market which new techniques and materials.

Your team create furnishing and accessory designs based on certain client specifications, finding ways to improve items already manufactured staying informed about design trends and developments

Selecting suitable materials, which might include wood, metal, plastic and leather and textiles

Discussing designs with clients for custom ordering or with manufacturers

Generating sample designs using computer-aided design (CAD), card models, sketches or hard prototypes

Using software packages such as AutoCAD, Rhino, Adobe Suite and Photoshop

Preparing detailed final designs

Evaluating issues such as pricing and fixing costs, purchasing, safety, materials and manufacturing methods and techniques

A lot of your time will be spent in the design studio but you may have to travel to visit clients and suppliers, and to attend meetings and trade shows.
