Schneider Electric Systems UK Ltd are currently recruiting for a Senior Application Engineer to join their Process Automation Business Unit, based out of our Warrington office.

Job Scope:

Provides technical responsibility and ownership for the delivery of automation solutions for the process industry. Principally involved in the delivery of DCS, Safety and PLC based automation solutions. Responsible for internal and external relationships. Assists in the commercial delivery of the project budgets and schedule.

Interprets customer technical specifications and generates strategies for implementation in production.  Assists customer in defining detailed application, system, and hardware requirements.  May delegate tasks to team, evaluates & approves all documentation developed and monitors team productivity.

Prepares detailed hardware/software specifications on company products and develops detailed engineering estimates for potential projects.  Assists in developing risk factors on various applications. 

Develops software and completes all necessary documentation to meet requirements of the application specifications.

Provides technical leadership in application and customer acceptance tests.  Defines the requirement and supervises installation and wiring of all testing equipment. 

Coordinates with 3rd party vendors to define interfaces and deliver 3rd party solutions.  

Interfaces with the Client in all technical aspects of project delivery

Coordinates and/or participates in on-site engineering, start-up and application commissioning. 

Assists in Sales presentation of application opportunities. 

Provides estimating and front end risk analysis of potential projects.  Evaluates project documentation and implementation for consistency and reusability.  

Provides Customer training. 

Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise.   Technical interface with Project Manager.  Assists in transfer of project to Customer Service.  

Non-Technical Experience:


Bachelor's Degree, HND/HNC or equivalent experience in engineering related subject. 

Displays leadership qualities, self-motivated to achieve and demonstrates ownership of job role responsibilities

Able to work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

Technical Experience:


Detailed technical understanding of Foxboro DCS product portfolio, including ICC, IACCand FCS system configurators, Foxview/Foxdraw/WW ControlHMIOperator environments, System Manager, AIM* and Wonderware Historian

Detailed technical understanding of 3rd Party interface protocols including Modbus RTU/TCP, Profibus, OPC UA/DA/AE

Understanding of safety related and safety critical applications for the petrochemical industry such as F&G, ESD, BMS with understanding of related process control applications, relevant knowledge of technical standards including IEC61511. 

Detailed technical understanding of the Triconex Safety PLC product portfolio, including Tricon, Trident and TriStation configurator.

Can demonstrate exposure to complementary software applications such as Foxboro Field Device Manager, Pactware and HART protocol products

Hands on knowledge of database applications with Access and Excel a preference


Knowledge and exposure of 3rd Party products Wonderware InTouch/System Platform, Vijeo Citect, Modicon PLC’s, Rockwell PLC’s, Siemens PLC’s

Good knowledge of electronic circuit theory.
