 Key Responsibilities

  • Research, write and distribute press releases to targeted media, maximising coverage through all available media channels (including our own internal and external online and offline communications platforms)
  • Manage incoming press and PR enquiries, liaising with colleagues to generate an appropriate response and/or briefing for key spokespeople
  • Manage the PR aspect of potential crises/contentious situations.
  • Attend relevant events, liaising with the press, capturing quotes and permissions etc.
  • Work with relevant internal teams to devise, plan and implement press and PR strategies for new projects, events and other activity
  • Devise and co-ordinate photo opportunities
  • Co-ordinate press and media training, where the need is identified
  • Provide regular ‘round-ups’ of news clips, distributing these to the relevant senior management teams, managing an archive of news clippings
  • Collate and analyse media coverage reviewing reach and impact, generating reports on activity, trends and areas for development
  • Identify external recognition opportunities (e.g. awards) to promote our business, working with relevant areas of the business to compile submissions
  • Manage associated budgets for press and related licenses
  • Work closely with the wider Communications team to make sure press activity supports our wider communications and events programme. Contribute to TSC’s Communications Calendar
  • Work closely with the Digital, Marketing and Community teams to manage our social media activity, maximising the impact of this channel for press and publicity purposes
  • Write and edit in-house magazines, case studies, speeches, articles and annual reports, preparing and supervising the production of corporate publications
  • Manage work to agreed timescales to ensure copy deadlines are met and ‘pinch-points’ minimised
  • Keep up-to-date with all issues that affect the company
  • Be prepared to attend events in the evening or to be on call at weekends in order to deal quickly with the PR aspect of a crisis
  • Assist in duties of a similar nature when directed, and support wider team activities, in order to maintain the level of support and commitment expected by our colleagues, customers and members

Key Experience, Knowledge and skills

  • Press & PR experience, including creation and distribution of press releases, crisis management and event publicity
  • Experience of journalism e.g.  Reporting on events, taking quotes, writing articles for publications or other media
  • Experience of Content Management Systems with the ability to upload to websites as well as an understanding of the basic principles of SEO
  • Experience of building a network of strong media contacts
  • Understanding of all types of media – including print, broadcast, online, social – and how best to place stories in each to maximise coverage and impact
  • Ability to interact with colleagues/external contacts at all levels of our business both in person and on the telephone
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and writing skills
  • Drive, competence, flexibility and a willingness to learn
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to multitask
  • The ability to cope with pressure and remain positive when facing challenging or crisis situations
  • Creativity, imagination and initiative
  • Good teamwork, analytical and problem-solving skills
