Accounting Practice Manager

Location: Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex

Salary: £Negotiable - dependent on experience

Reporting to: Managing Director

Overall Objective: Co-managing the Practice alongside the Managing Director, implementing team and business targets and monitoring the same. Focus on Business Development, seeking potential opportunities to secure future clients for the practice. Hire, train and supervise junior staff. The practice is set to expand therefore presents a superb career opportunity for practice professionals looking to progress in their accounting careers. This role could suit a person who already has a successful career within practice and is looking to take their next career move into a practice manager.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To provide a courteous and efficient service to clients, maintain strong business relationships with clients treating each client in a pleasant and helpful matter and following the 'standard practice' processes.

  • To assisting with the development of new business, deal with enquiries from potential clients, organise and attend meetings, produce proposals and close the sale.

  • To offer advice and recommend additional services to clients when required in an effort to maximise sales providing it is in the best interest of the client.

  • To deal with customer complaints effectively ensuring goodwill is maintained, completing the relevant documentation and communicating any requirements for further action to your franchisee.

  • To ensure all services are invoiced at the correct price.

  • To complete all sales invoices/order forms clearly and accurately making sure these are delivered on time.

  • To maintain a high standard of cleanliness and tidiness at clients' premises and if working from home ensure your working area is kept clear and properly managed at all times. To learn and maintain sufficient product knowledge enabling confident communication with customers.

  • To gain knowledge of new services and developments and propose changes when necessary. To ensure compliance with all rules, regulations and procedures.

  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested from time to time including travel to client sites as required.

  • All work should be completed to the highest possible standard and comply with processes.

  • Punctuality and reliability, ensuring a good attendance record.

  • A consistently keen attitude towards work.

  • Maintaining a high standard of customer service with no customer complaints.

  • Maintaining and demonstrating a high standard of technical competence.

  • Achieving maximum sales by using positive sales techniques.

  • Ensuring all documentation is neatly and accurately completed.

  • Maintaining high standards of neatness and cleanliness, including personal hygiene.

  • No breach of Health and Safety or other regulations which may result in formal action from a statutory authority.


  • Accounting qualification (preferably CIMA, ACA or ACCA)

  • At least 5 years' experience as management / financial accountant or similar role

  • Ideally experience within a Practice with track proven record

  • Proven ability for Business Development and Practice expansion

  • Working knowledge of accounting software highly desirable

  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office

  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to consistently hit deadlines

  • Good numerical, written and analytical skills

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to train and coach others

  • Ability to follow processes

  • Commercially focussed
