Practice Development Nurse / Clinical Skills Facilitator for the Acute Respiratory Unit, (ARU) comprising of Catherine James, Egremont and Overton wards within speciality medicine in the medical division. The position is a substantive full time post comprising of one 11.5 hours clinical shift within the staffing template and three 8.5 hours supernumerary shifts for education, teaching and facilitating clinical skills competency.

We are seeking a confident/competent bank six nurse with respiratory experience to assist in developing, supporting and teaching nurses to safely care for both Level 1 & 2 patients who may be receiving Non Invasive Bi level Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP) Ventilation Therapy, have a tracheostomy in place or a chest drain sited.

The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, skilled individual, ready to join the multi-disciplinary team of nurses, doctors and physiotherapist, delivering acute care for our respiratory unit which consists of 3 wards totalling 31 male and female inpatient beds within the Barry Building at the Royal Sussex County hospital (RSCH). The nursing team rotate through all 3 wards and Overton ward will become the higher acuity ward caring for patients receiving Non Invasive BiPAP Therapy.

Essential requirements are to be a registered nurse, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience within an acute setting, possess a mentorship, assessor/supervisor qualification, an interest in education/teaching and have a good respiratory knowledge to deliver nursing care to the highest standard for patient group as detailed above. Applicants must demonstrate evidence of recent professional development. You will be supported in your role by ward manager, matron, educator and lead nurse for speciality medicine. In January 2019, The Care Quality Commission (CQC) published its report following its recent inspection of Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals (BSUH). This showed a significant improvement in our rating to the second-highest possible: ‘Good’. Medicine was rated as outstanding for the care delivered.
