PR Account Manager

Our client, who are a PR and Content Marketing Agency based in Central London are recruiting for an Account Manager to join their PR Team. The successful candidate will have experience working within corporate and/or professional services PR and will have people management experience (a minimum of line managing one person).

ABOUT YOU

Working closely with the Account Director, the Account Manager is responsible for building strong client relationships and implementing a cohesive PR strategy that will resonate with the press. They produce high quality press materials and help manage any crises that arise.

Account Managers are key to ensuring that all deadlines are met, commitments to clients are fulfilled and positive results are achieved.

WHAT YOU’RE HERE TO DO

Public Relations

  • Inspire creativity from others and contribute creative ideas to drive the PR campaign forward, explaining these to clients on calls and in face-to-face meetings
  • Organise, lead and actively contribute to creative brainstorming sessions with the account team
  • Proactively identify upcoming events/market changes that could have an impact on clients’ messaging in the future
  • Analyse press coverage achieved to determine best tactics for a particular client or PR message
  • Consider the link between PR successes and the particular tactics that delivered results, using this information to adapt campaigns and re-direct efforts as necessary, even at short notice
  • Monitor press coverage levels throughout the month, reacting to a lack of coverage by suggesting new content / angles / messaging
  • Constantly update understanding of clients’ products, services and industry, passing learnings onto other members of the team
  • Understand the client’s business plan (both long and short term) to ensure PR plan is appropriately tailored
  • Implement, manage and monitor a regular and ongoing PR plan, prompting the account team to undertake activity according to the agreed plan.
  • Regularly contribute to the agency’s blog and other social media channels as appropriate

Communication

  • Deliver press releases, reactive comments, blogs and thought leadership articles to a high level and within specialised subject areas
  • Develop junior members of the team, providing effective feedback on work to ensure all output is delivered to a high standard
  • Speak confidently and clearly at meetings, presentations and new business pitches, taking a leadership role when appropriate and bringing well-informed and insightful contributions to the conversation
  • Use social media tools to interact and monitor developments with clients, the media and other professionals effectively, supporting more junior members to do the same.

Client Relationships

  • Maintain and develop influential client relationships and manage the team to ensure tasks are always delivered on time and to Company Standards
  • Respond promptly and effectively to client queries or problems, referring any necessary issues upward if necessary
  • Engage with clients to get a clear idea of the brief, activity they require, key objectives and metrics that indicate success
  • Demonstrate a strong knowledge of the current business environment and related issues
  • Manage the quality of agendas and contact reports, developing team members’ skills through coaching and feedback
  • Communicate any positive / negative client feedback to the team/AMG effectively
  • Monitor timesheets and ensure there is a balance between activity being profitable and delivering within the agreements made with the client.

Working with the Media

  • Identify, understand and action relevant opportunities to secure high quality coverage that is relevant, delegating to others as needed
  • Consistently meet agreed targets for client press coverage. Reporting any successes/concerns regarding press coverage to Senior Account Managers / Directors
  • Ensure that press lists are relevant and kept up to date according to the needs of the client / campaign
  • Regularly monitor news media for opportunities for clients, industry developments and creative angles
  • Ensure that features/editorial calendars are tracked and that clients are pitched for relevant opportunities
  • Organise and attend high-level press meetings
  • Ensure that press meetings with relevant media are being arranged for clients / followed-up afterwards to maximise the opportunity
  • Coach junior team members to attend regular press meetings with relevant media
  • Develop junior team members to highlight clients’ news to the media

Teamwork

  • Proactively support your manager, suggesting new ideas and questioning thinking where appropriate
  • Foster good relationships with all internal departments and cross-functional teams
  • Support the development of team members by sharing relevant experiences
  • Refer to senior team members for advice and support

People Management

  • Day-to-day delegation, supervision and management of your team and any freelancers
  • Motivate, inspire and lead your team, fostering a culture of accountability and solution provision
  • Work with the Account Director to identify resource requirements and participate in the recruitment process
  • Contribute to the development of individual team members’ skills, knowledge and confidence
  • Offer advice and guidance to junior members of staff as needed
  • Quickly identify and address people problems or issues within your team, escalating to the Account Director, if appropriate
