JOB ROLE: Policy Analyst (Operations Policy)

JOB TYPE: Permanent

SALARY: £35,000 - £40,000

The Education Policy Team works on a wide range of interesting policy issues in medical education, training and development. The role involves scoping out projects, developing policy in line with company framework, engaging with stakeholders internally and externally, and helping to develop and deliver evidence based policy and guidance. The education policy team takes a strategic approach, using the regulatory role to improve the quality of education and training, and the experience of medical students, doctors and patients in the UK.

Main responsibilities

  • Communicating and engagement with external stakeholders about nominated projects
  • Responding to enquiries and preparing external communication
  • Developing a programme of work around end of life care in medical education
  • Developing resources and content for relevant policy areas and supporting the development and drafting of guidance documents
  • Revising and updating supplementary guidance to company standards on clinical placements
  • Project management of education projects
  • Coordinating project governance meetings and reporting, and working with operational evidence and communications teams to carry out the review
  • Maintaining and sharing registers of likely policy issues
  • Attending and contributing to prioritisation meetings, sharing the outputs with the wider team and taking appropriate actions
  • coordinating activities of team members and across the wider Education & Standards Directorate

Technical knowledge and skills

  • The ability to identify, gather and analyse information about policy issues from a range of sources and the ability to evaluate this information to identify issues and options for policy development
  • The ability to work within the company's established policies and procedures with a high level of accuracy and within agreed timeframes across a number of pieces of work concurrently
  • Proficient use of information systems including MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook and able to adapt to in house systems
  • some familiarity with medical education would be desirable

Communications skills

  • Strong oral communication skills
  • The ability to explain and adapt complex and potentially sensitive information to the level of detail appropriate
  • The ability to write clear, concise reports
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders
  • Ability to work collaboratively and supportively within the Standards and Education teams
  • Ability to identify problems and suggest options to address these issues through a process of critical analysis
  • Ability to identify and anticipate likely future issues and problems, and escalate these appropriately
