PMO Manager

You will be accountable for managing a number of shared services across the IT function, including the project activity schedule, resource allocation, purchasing, process development and risk. In addition, you will also track and report on overall IT performance and adherence to agreed standards.


Portfolio Planning:

• Leads the on-going monitoring and review of the portfolio for cost, risk, interdependencies and impact on current business activities

• Working with Programme Managers to co-ordinate the overall Delivery team project schedule across both waterfall and agile projects

• Working with the PMO Manager and Enterprise Architecture team to co-ordinate pre-build ‘Shape’ activities into the schedule

Project  Process & Resource Management

• Allocating project team resources to projects based on pipeline demand

• Identifying resource shortfalls in advance and working with Managers across IT to resolve constraints

• Running resource planning meetings, rotating resource across programmes at appropriate times in order to spread skills and experience across the team

• Acting as a process SME, advising, coaching and supporting the Delivery team in resolving project related challenges

Supplier Management:

• Managing the Contractor approval and review process to support PMO Manager and IT director in resource decision making and approvals

Project Standards

• Working with the PMO and IT Management team to establish project standards and approaches and ensuring consistency across projects

• Working with the Test Manager and Test Partner to establish test standards and approaches and ensuring consistency of testing across projects


• Working with IT Heads of  to establish a set of IT performance KPIs and working with team managers to track and report on progress against these

• Working with Enterprise Architecture, Digital, Delivery and Services teams to create an overall skills development and training plan for the function

Line Management

• Responsibility for line management of a team of PMO resources

• Ensuring all are clear on their role, have up to date objectives and personal development plans and receive consistent line management, feedback and performance appraisals

• Supporting skills development to ensure they are equipped to meet current and future demands, and ensuring career development is aligned with the strategic direction of the business


• A degree in IT or related business topic

• A good working understanding of Microsoft applications – Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project and Visio

• Experience in Retail IT at management level and in-depth knowledge of the business unit they are supporting

• Experience of delivering complex, multi-country business solutions involving multiple senior suppliers

• Experience of managing matrix teams and 3rd party suppliers, preferably across multiple locations, including internationally

• A strong understanding of all stages in a project lifecycle and delivery approaches e.g. waterfall, agile, etc. and experience of implementing them into organisations

• Proven track record for line management, motivation and development

• Strong financial management skills and experience


• Improve “on-time” formal project approvals by 20% YoY vs. the Business Technology Budget/Quarterly reforecast baseline

• Establish Supplier Performance Review framework aligned to Procurement supplier segmentation

• Reduction in number of basic/leverage IT suppliers of 15% p.a. through consolidation in line with the IT Sourcing strategy

• Successful management of the Weekly and Monthly IT KPI reports for IT Leadership team on time, complete and accurate

• Contractor/Flex partner usage held within 10% of quarterly plan
