Joining the IT Portfolio Management team as an IT PMO Analyst you will focus on pro-actively providing an independent view and analysis across a portfolio(s) of programme/projects ensuring transparency of information to enable senior management decisions which lead to the overall successful delivery of projects to time, cost and scope. You will also be asked to facilitate improvement of IT project delivery and cross-learning between project teams.
IT Portfolio Management is a function within the UK&I IT Department primarily responsible for management and execution of the business change projects enabled by IT in United Kingdom and Ireland. IT Portfolio Management is also responsible for managing engagement between the Business and IT. The Portfolio Management team consists of IT Portfolio Managers, Project Managers, Business Analysts and a PMO team.
What you will be doing
You will be assigned to work on projects in a particular business aligned portfolio (s) of IT projects. Typically portfolios are aligned with business areas and functions and formed of 15-20 projects with a budget of £5-7M.
As an IT PMO Analyst you will work with the IT Portfolio Management Team including: understanding the nature of each Portfolio of projects and the key elements of each project within it; tracking status of project plans and milestones, working jointly with the individual Project Managers to ensure each element is accurate and up-to-date; project level risk and issue review management and escalation; co-ordination of regular project/programme level reporting; co-ordination of project governance; ensuring the adoption of and the compliance to the use of the IT Project Delivery Framework standards; and PMO administration.
You will be forward thinking and use questioning and analysis techniques to pro-actively identify potential barriers to project delivery, escalating to enable effective decision making and challenging Project Managers to help make improvements to the success of project delivery. You will plan back from key events, such as Integrated Releases and Checkpoint Meetings, to ensure that all preparation is complete and the those accountable (Project Managers, Delivery Managers, Architects, etc.) have completed all due project artefacts when needed and to the required quality standards.
What we are looking for
- Experience of project co-ordination
- Experience of managing a small project, or exposure to the end to end project lifecycle
- Experience of working within a structured project management framework
- Knowledge of project management tools and techniques
- Knowledge and experience of Microsoft packages, including Project, PowerPoint, Word and Excel
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Understanding of the importance of detail and organization
- Skill in managing stakeholder groups and balancing diplomacy and tact with assertiveness
- Very good prioritization skills to balance key priorities
