Job Salary: circa £35-45k
Job Key Skills: PhD in Engineering, Chemistry or Physics related subject with research experience relating to Optical and Photonic instrument design and construction.

Our client is a newly established consumer focused healthcare company in the process of building its initial development team. The successful candidate to the post of Microfluidics Engineer will work as part of the R&D team to deliver their objectives. The successful applicant will bring knowledge and expertise of miniaturisation of fluidic systems, knowledge of fabrication methods and materials and experience with biological analysis to the implementation of our clients core technologies.

Job Responsibilities:

  • to take initiatives in the planning of research
  • to identify and develop suitable techniques, and apparatus, for the collection and analysis of data
  • to contribute to maintenance of research facilities and infrastructure
  • to conduct data analysis
  • to ensure the validity and reliability of data at all times
  • to maintain accurate and complete records of all findings
  • to write reports for submission to research sponsors
  • to identify, capture and record IP
  • to develop contacts and research collaborations and the wider community

Job Requirements:

  • PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience


  • Experience with the design and fabrication of microfluidic and miniaturised assay systems
  • Experience with the development and application of new techniques/assays/microfluidic devices
  • Experience of working as part of a research team
  • Experience of undertaking proof-of-concept studies
  • Experience with preparation of reports and documents.


  • Experience of biological analysis and assays
  • Experience with statistical analysis of data
  • Experience with a range of microfluidic fabrication materials
  • Experience with a range of microfluidic fabrication techniques
  • Experience with biological reagents
