Personal Tax Assistant - Study Support - Bury St Edmunds - c.£25-35k DOE.

Reporting to: Manager Department: Personal Tax.


  • Preparation of personal tax returns, including high net worth individuals and non- UK domiciled individuals
  • Reviewing the work prepared by junior members of staff.
  • Correspondence with clients, HM Revenue & Customs and third parties.
  • Assisting with HM Revenue & Customs enquiries.
  • Liaising with clients by phone, post, email and occasionally in person
  • Dealing with billing and other administrative issues relating to the portfolio.
  • Working with more senior tax staff on one-off technical assignments for new and existing clients.
  • Involvement in other departmental, office or firm activities such as the Budget coverage and internal presentations.

Personal and professional qualities

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum A level standard with good academic grades. ATT qualified is strongly preferred, unless significant on the job experience has been gained.
  • Must be senior enough to review the work of others.
  • Advisory experience is an advantage.
  • Will need to have experience at an accountancy practice or similar environment and ideally experience in a personal tax team in a similar role. Study support for ATT/CTA exams will be considered for appropriately qualified candidates.

  • Enthusiastic, reliable and used to working to deadlines.
  • Shows initiative and common sense.
  • Able to work under pressure when required, especially in January. Willing to put in long hours in busy periods as required.
  • Effective communication skills.
