The Job

The overall purpose of the position is to assist with the operation and maintenance of the financial systems of the company and its subsidiaries. Day to day responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

To perform both weekly and monthly payroll operation to include all relevant submissions to HMRC
To issue cheques on a daily basis and file cheque requisition forms. To ensure completed cheques have been collected within a one-week period
To administer all aspects of purchase & sales Ledger
To write receipts for all cheques/income received and prepare lodgements. Ensure all cash received is recorded and posted to accounts software on a regular and timely basis
To ensure cheque journal and income spreadsheets are kept up to date and that all cheque and direct debit payments are recorded accurately and on a timely basis
To check numerical accuracy of staff travel claims and record on monthly spreadsheet for payroll processing
To ensure that effective credit control is maintained, by regular review of Debtor Balances and pursuit of any debts not settled within due date
To complete monthly bank reconciliation’s and assist with other balance sheet control account reconciliation’s
To complete and submit grant claims as and when required
To assist with general administration duties when required

The Person

Essential Criteria

Experience with the following:
Operation of a payroll system
Operation of sales and purchase ledger
Handling and recording of cash receipts and payments
Bank reconciliations and other balance sheet control account reconciliations
Effective use of computerised accounts packages
Proficient in Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, and Outlook

5 GCSE’s at grade C and above (including Maths and English), or equivalent
At least 1 years’ experience working within a busy finance department

Desirable Criteria

Working knowledge of credit control
Working knowledge of VAT
