Payroll & Pension Manager (Maternity Cover)

£41,000 - £49,500

This academic institution has a turnover approaching £300m. It employs over 3,000 (fte) staff in 3 academic Faculties, one school and professional and support service departments.  The Finance and Procurement Office (F&PO) is responsible for managing the client’s finances and cash flows; ensuring value for money in its financial activities and compliance with statutory and regulatory bodies and financial best practice. This position is responsible for supporting these services, with responsibility for leading the Payroll & Pension team. 

This team are responsible for the delivery and reporting of the pay function and provides payroll services to several associated organisations. 

The post holder leads a team responsible for the day-to-day operation and control of payroll and pension matters across the University.

The post holder is responsible for the delivery of customer service focused processes to support academic and other managers and will ensure that payroll and pension services are delivered in an effective, compliant, and professional manner and seeking to continual improve the efficiency and compliance of the Payroll function.

Over the next twelve months two projects are likely to involve significant input from the post holder

1)           A review of our integrated HR/payroll solution and creation of a requirements specification

2)           Regularisation of overseas workers in collaboration with our external advisors ABB and HR team

The post holder will support the team responsible for supporting the quarterly and annual financial reporting of staff and pension costs.

Staff management responsibility

  • The post holder is responsible for the overall line management of the Payroll and Pension team as set out within the F&PO organisation chart.
  • This team consists of a mix of seven full and part-time employees.
  • The Deputy Payroll & Pensions Manager oversees the payroll operations team. 
  • The Pensions Officer deals with employees and pension providers on an individual basis and liaises with the payroll team on pension administration matters.
