Part-time credit control

The post holder is required to ensure that a good service is provided to both internal and external
customers, ensuring;
 all research debts are monitored and chased as soon as overdue, thus maximising the schools
cash balances
 any external customer queries are resolved in a timely manner, to aid the swift payment of
 appropriate assistance and advice in regards to any errors relating to a sales invoice is conveyed
in a timely manner to the relevant person within the research operations office;
 the procedure of escalation of problems/issues is adhered to at all times;
 confidentiality is adhered to where required;
 the School's policies and procedures are followed at all times;
Key Areas of Work
Communications and Networks
Communication is a key part of this role due to the nature of the work, it is important that a good
service is being provided at all times to all the stakeholders by the post holder.
The post holder will need to communicate over the phone, email and sometimes in person with
external customers in order to resolve queries on invoices that are overdue. The type and level of
information exchanged will depend on the invoice raised. The post holder would also be expected to
make decisions regarding information with external customers and organisations in respect of
invoices, payments and debts. They would be expected to respond to any queries regarding invoice
and payment information, liaising with colleagues as necessary.
The post holder will be expected to work closely with internal colleagues within Finance and the
Research Operations Office, in order to exchange detailed and sometimes complex information. The
post holder will also be expected to communicate with staff at all levels within the University
regarding debts, and may also be required to attend meetings, as necessary. This may involve the
communication of complex information in order to explain and influence outcomes and decisions.
In their communications
 Educated to degree level;
 Extensive experience of working in research related credit control, within a medium or large organisation;
 Excellent communication and numerical skills;
 Ability to work to a high degree of accuracy with speed and efficiency;
 Ability to work independently, without supervision and be able to guide other team members;
 Evidence of a commitment to providing a high level of customer service;
 Ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines;
 Highly computer literate, including the use of complex spreadsheets;
 Understanding and knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping;
 Experience of working in a multi-currency environment
