The Client

Our client are a charity that provides a circle of support to the local community. As a council for voluntary service, they believe in bringing people together to achieve more in their communities and improve quality of life.

They support voluntary organisations and community groups at the early stages of their development; provide funding advice, representation and a payroll service to help them grow and flourish and deliver services and projects that support local individuals, businesses and community groups

The Role

The main purpose of this role is to manage all financial requirements of the charity and its trading subsidiary to include ensuring the financial reporting meets all statutory requirements, the Directors and senior staff colleagues are provided with Management Accounts on a monthly / quarterly basis, to manage the Finance Office staff team and contribute to the future strategic planning of the charity. This role oversees a finance team of 5.

Responsibilities

Accounting

  • To manage the Finance Office staff team and ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of financial systems and processes.
  • To ensure the correct maintenance of all VAT record and complete the quarterly VAT Return
  • To ensure all accounts and returns represent a true and fair view and meet legal and regulatory requirements.
  • To liaise with the charity’s bankers, ensure the banking provision meets the charity’s requirements and to manage the organisations cash.
  • To ensure the payroll service is run efficiently, provides good customer service and meets all statutory requirements

    Reporting

  • To prepare Management Accounts and Cashflow forecasts and report to the board on finance matters
  • To prepare and monitor budgets for the charity and for each service/project
  • To attend Finance and General Purposes Committee and Executive Committee meetings and play a lead role in financial reporting to these committees
  • To attend and contribute as required other meetings e.g. internal working groups, quarterly staff meetings

    Statutory

  • To prepare annual accounts and supporting documentation for audit and liaise with the auditors
  • To complete Annual Returns to the Charity Commission and Companies House
  • To ensure all legislative requirements are met.

    General

  • To work with the Chief Executive and Assistant Chief Executive as a member of the Senior Management Team.
  • To be part of the staff team, supporting events and activities that involve all parts of the charity, sometimes outside of normal working hours.
  • To negotiate and maintain the best options for utilities and telephone contracts
  • To give advice on bids and projects.

The Candidate

Our client are looking for a qualified finance professional with experience managing all aspects of charity and private sector accounting, financial management and reporting.

They will have knowledge of the Charity SORP reporting requirements and have experience of managing staff. Sage and excel expertise would be advantageous, along with a committed, empathetic and supportive character.

The Terms

This permanent part time, Hemel Hempstead based position is being offered with a high degree of flexibility as to the working pattern (with the possibility of some remote working once embedded). Our client is looking to pay around £40K FTE against 26.5 hours per week. Generous holiday allowance.
