The DWF LLP Insured Contract team is looking for a Talented Paralegal to join the team in the Liverpool office on a 12 months fixed term contract.

The Role

The team in Liverpool require a Paralegal to join the team. The role will involve working in a team environment acting on behalf of clients referred by legal expense insurers.

This is a dispute resolution role and the role will include litigating civil and commercial claims. The claims arise from contractual disputes. You will act for both Claimants and Defendants in connection with disputes including consumer contract, professional negligence, commercial contract disputes and debt recovery.

The successful candidate will demonstrate maturity and a real willingness to get involved in a wide variety of work.

Ideally, we are looking for candidates with a good understanding of contractual disputes and debt recovery; however we would consider candidates with Paralegal experience from other areas of law.

Main function of job:

Advising clients in connection with claims issued in the small claims track of the County Court.

Relationships:

  1. Responsible to: Line manager.

  2. Liaison with: Partners, fee earners and non-fee earners at all levels within team, listing clerks, counsel’s clerk and other similar personnel.

    Main Duties:

  • Advising clients and the insurers in connection with the prospects of success of a claim;

  • Drafting pleadings, witness statements, instructions to counsel;

  • Cataloguing and collation of documentation for disclosure exercises, trial bundles and instructions to Counsel and experts,

  • Drafting general correspondence and initial drafting of instructions;

  • Minute and note taking at client meetings, settlement negotiations, mediation and court;

  • Outdoor clerical duties, including lodgement of documents at Court;

  • Significant liaison with Court Managers, Listing Clerks and Counsel’s Clerks;

  • Undertaking legal and commercial research and production of notes/advices;

  • Cross-referencing disclosure and expert evidence with witness evidence;

  • Proof reading, data entry and maintenance of spreadsheets, compilation of Scott Schedules;

  • Data analysis and participation in analysis of evidence;

  • Companies House/Land Registry searching in the context of Anti-Money Laundering, as well as credential checking of adverse parties;

  • Coordinating multi-party availability to attend meetings, ADR and proceedings;

  • Administrative duties

  • Time recording to meet a chargeable hours target
