£12.33 - £14.55 per hour (depending on payment method)

As the sole agency supplier to the HM Prison Service for the provision of maintenance trades & support operatives, Hays is seeking to recruit an experienced and qualified painter for Wandsworth Prison in London. This is a Long-term Temporary Contract based on an average of 39 hours per week, working Monday - Friday. Working 1 weekend in every 3 will also be a requirement once settled in, contract is expected to last 3 months initially.
Your new role
The Painter role is in a unique working environment with a strong sense of team working. You must be local to the prison or have your own transport. Basic Uniform will need to be provided by the temporary worker in most establishments, the Prison/ Contractors will supply high visibility clothing and protective head wear, along with any other specialist safety equipment if required.
As part of the Works/ Maintenance Department you will be responsible for the painting maintenance requirements throughout the prison. You will also be required to assist in the safety and security of the establishment where your duties will include escorting visitors, building contractors, gate duties within the prison and outside areas.
You will ensure the safety and security of the visitors, staff and prisoners within a Prison establishment, while persons from outside of NOMS are on site. You will also ensure that no unauthorised persons or items enter the establishment. London Prisons have an excellent reputation as busy local prisons, which serve all the courts in the Capital. Internal & external painting, Supervision of visitors, General maintenance & making good, Patrolling perimeter and grounds, Reactive & emergency repairs, Escorting contractors & vehicles, Planned Painting Projects throughout, Health & Safety Procedures, Radio handling,Tool checks.
What you'll need to succeed
Formal painting qualifications are required for this role, City & Guilds/ NVQ and CSCS. Evidence of significant and recent painting experience is essential. Experience supervising a team of painters is desirable. The nature of the role requires candidates to be security conscious and able to challenge potential compromises and risks, you will also need to be reliable and consistent, level headed and have exceptional interpersonal skills. All applicants will be subject to the HM Prison Service Security Clearance procedure which can take up to 3 months, this will also include a DBS check. You must hold a Valid Passport or Birth Certificate & Photo Driving Licence in your current address. All applicants must be able to provide details of 2 satisfactory references, at least one from an ex-employer.
