Outreach Support Worker jobs in the borough of Harrow

You may have experience as a carer, parent or through volunteering or have completed a relevant qualification.

A qualification in social care or education will be an advantage.

Depending on each child's needs, you will provide activities which aim to support them with:

  • Accessing activities such as cinema, leisure centre, swimming.
  • Social activities and developing friendships.
  • Developing their emotional and social skills.
  • Personal development such as preparing food, eating, cleaning and shopping.
  • Physical activities.
  • Develop their literacy and maths and support informal learning.
  • Reflect in activities families cultural needs.
  • Act as a positive role model.

The support you give could include helping children with:

  • Personal care - washing, going to the toilet.
  • Supporting any health needs, such as taking medication, recording relevant information and liaising with professionals.
  • Help children manage their feelings and enable them to communicate their wishes to reduce behaviours that challenge.
  • Develop communications skills.
  • Access to medical appointments.
  • Attend volunteering opportunities or help with school transitions.
  • Participate in family events.
  • Encourage play and positive interactions with siblings and parents.

You will need to:

  • Share their values.
  • Be caring.
  • Communicate well with parents and children.
  • Being responsible.
  • Keen to understand how each child learns and develops as an individual.
  • Understand that each individual is unique, recognizing individual differences.
  • Understand how to keep children safe from harm and protected.
  • Understand how to reduce risks when working with children within the centre, community or family home.

Outreach support worker duties will include;

  • Involve children when planning and doing those activities.
  • Help children to be included, consulted and listened to.
  • Help children to do things they want to do by managing risks as required.
  • Record things appropriately in observation records.
  • Ensure you tell your colleagues about anything they should know so support continues seamlessly.
  • Respect children's dignity.
  • Keep children safe from harm.
  • Attend and participate in your induction, training sessions and meetings.
  • Report any concerns incidents or accidents that occur.
  • To work with children whose behaviours are described as challenging (physical and verbal) to enable them to work through crisis situations both at home and out in the community.
