This is an exciting time to come and join the team at BAE Systems Submarines, working with our strategic partners to deliver affordable, world-class submarines.
We currently have vacancies for Qualified Accountants and Finance Managers at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.
You will be based on a shipyard which is undergoing a large scale redevelopment project. As a member of the Finance Function, you will gain regular exposure to other functions within the business and regularly liaise with budget holders and project managers. BAE Systems is the only manufacturer of Submarines within the UK, providing you with a unique opportunity to work within a company with an interesting and extremely complex product.
This role provides an excellent opportunity for high level exposure within a FTSE 100 company and will appeal to an ambitious and driven individual.
Your main responsibilities as an Accountant/Finance Manager will involve:
Building strong professional relationships with budget holders and project managers
Integrating into the existing finance team and applying an attitude of continuous improvement to existing processes and procedures
Establishing and enforcing a strong culture of Governance and Controls
Involvement in the monthly reporting cycle
Opportunity to engage with other Business Units across BAE Systems
Your skills and qualifications as an Accountant/Finance Manager:
Full membership of a relevant professional accounting body - CIMA, ACCA or ICAEW/ICAS
Strong commercial acumen
Experience gained in a finance business partnering capacity
Experience of working as part of a multi-functional team
Finance experience gained either in a Big 4 environment or within manufacturing, defence or engineering would be preferred
Systems experience with SAP/ TM1 would be advantageous

Maritime - Submarines
Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.
The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes.
Dreadnought is the successor to the Vanguard class of nuclear deterrent submarines. We will deliver four submarines to the Royal Navy, with the first submarine entering service in the early 2030s. Dreadnought is widely considered to be one of the world's most complex engineering challenges.
