Our client, a leading Domestic and International Removals & Relocation organisation, is looking for an Operations Manager to join their team in East Sussex.

The position will be responsible for the delivery of efficient operations within the business through the effective management of operational resources. The role will also be responsible for planning and scheduling all bookings, working closely with and Transport Manager on all transport and logistics matters.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Operations Management
  • Acting as the pivotal link between the Operations Department, Transport Manager, Branch Co-ordinators and Crew, managing the team to ensure high standards of service delivery to customers
  • Managing the resource planning of jobs utilising internal and external labour resources, matching skills, knowledge and capability effectively to deliver the highest levels of service to clients
  • To manage bookings and resource to ensure sales and coordination teams receive timely and accurate information to support an efficient and effective booking process
  • Working closely with the Customer Services team to advise on move plans and co-ordinate schedules
  • Despatching, briefing and debriefing Branch Co-ordinator/s, and Crew before and after each move and taking lessons learned and reviewing processes and procedures to continually improve performance
  • Working on UK and European schedules to provide Crew with instructions in advance of trips
  • Working proactively with internal teams to anticipate client needs and communicate effectively to crew, delivering positive solutions to ensure high standards of service delivery
  • Production of job sheets and work tickets as required, input of resource schedules into Redsky and any other essential administration as required
  • Management of external labour (agency workers and contractor workers) including booking labour and managing all related issues
  • Carry out tool box talks, in conjunction with the Branch Co-ordinator/s, investigations and formal meetings as required to ensure high standards of service and continuous development and improvement
  • Printing and providing load sheets to Warehouse, in the absence of the Branch Coordinator, to prepare and load vehicles
  • Responsible for signing off crew timesheets, overtime and weekends working
  • Responsible for managing night out allowances in the absence of the Branch Co-ordinator
  • To work closely with the Health & Safety Manager on all health and safety aspects of
  • To provide support in reviewing booking requests from the sale team, and with planning and forecasting and making recommendations and forecasting resource availability
  • Planning linked trips to include bookings for congestion zones, Euro Tunnel, hotels, flights etc.
  • To work on a rota basis to take Operations out of hours calls from Crew who need support
  • To attend weekly and monthly team meetings and conference calls


  • In conjunction with the Transport Manager, review tacho information, infringements and following up with Crew members as necessary
  • Evaluating driving information (Tom Tom and Tracker data) with the Transport Manager, liaising with drivers to feedback and put improvement plans in place as necessary
  • Providing support with site recycling and facilities issues as required
  • Recovery of stranded vehicles and crew as necessary
  • Liaising with the Transport Manager regarding vehicle availability, equipment defects, service & MOT's to ensure that resources and logistics are matched and planned

People Management:

  • Managing all elements of Crew Performance including probation reviews, absence management, holiday scheduling, grievances, disciplinary and poor performance
  • Responsible for understanding and matching crew capability, skills and knowledge to effectively utilise the team
  • Responsible for contributing to Crew induction training and on-boarding process
  • Recruitment & selection of Crew members including conducting driving licence checks
  • Working closely with the Training Manager regarding the design and delivery of training solutions for Crew members based on knowledge and feedback from crew and customers
  • Managing the annual Competency review process
  • Pro-active management of Crew hours, breaks and working time regulations and Driver Working Regulations to ensure legal and company compliance

Commercial Development:

  • Project planning & management of specific accounts as required
  • Responsible for process review and continuous improvement
  • Conducting site surveys and risk assessments on specific projects as required
  • Supporting client relationship development as required
