Recruitment has opened for a 6-month paid Internship role with C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group. The successful intern is expected to start in June 2018 and will be based in our London Office.

The Company

The C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, now in its 12th year, connects more than 90 of the world's greatest cities which have committed to tackling climate change. We bring mayors from around the world together to learn from each other in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and creating resilient, sustainable and low carbon cities. C40 cities represent more than 650 million urban citizens and their economies account for 25% of global GDP. Our recent 'Deadline 2020' report sets out the critical role that the world's major cities have to play in delivering the historic Paris Agreement to prevent catastrophic climate change.

C40's growing team of 100+ staff is headquartered in London, with offices in New York, Rio de Janeiro, Copenhagen, Beijing and Paris, and individual staff based across 25+ different locations. C40 has an operating budget of c.$25m per year and is primarily funded through the generous support of philanthropic foundations.

The strategic direction of the organization is determined by an elected Steering Committee of C40 mayors, which is chaired by the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo. Three-term Mayor of New York City Michael R. Bloomberg serves as President of the Board of Directors, which is responsible for operational oversight. An eight person management team, led by Executive Director, Mark Watts, leads the day-to-day management of C40.

The Role

The successful intern will provide support to the Office of the Executive Director, which includes supporting: the Executive Director for external meetings and speaking engagements; the C40 Board of Director meetings and strategic funders; and the C40 Chair and Steering Committee.

If selected, working a 40-hour week, s/he will have the opportunity to develop skills and understanding in a range of subject areas, gaining valuable experience working with international colleagues in a fast-paced and exciting global organization.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Helping to research and prepare briefings, concept papers and speeches for C40's Executive Director;
  • Supporting the organisation of the C40 Board of Directors' meeting. The Board of Directors is responsible for overseeing the management, finances and operations of C40;
  • Supporting the work of C40's Chair's Office to deliver the Steering Committee meetings. The Steering Committee is the strategic governing body of the C40;
  • Providing support on key, high profile events related to the Executive Director's and Chair's team work scope, including the Global Climate Action Summit in San Francisco in September;
  • Responsible for the monthly all staff call, coordinating with speakers and room set up; and
  • Provide support for C40 managed events, including presentations by guest speakers.

Person Specification

  • Excellent research skills;
  • Knowledge and interest in issues ranging from climate change, climate science, inclusive climate action, climate refugees, air quality, green sports/ events or gender issues related to climate change;
  • Experience managing multiple, diverse tasks;
  • Basic project management skills;
  • Basic event management skills;
  • Effective communicator and collaborator who is able to manage time, prioritise activities and accomplish tasks with minimal oversight;
  • Competent with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Basic stakeholder engagement skills; and
  • Fluent in English. Proficiency in French also preferred.
