Your new role
As Strategic Senior Buyer you will take lead on all purchasing activities taking a product through R&D stage through to final design. From here you will be responsible for transitioning the purchasing department from an R&D focus and turning this into an effective and efficient purchasing environment to meet the needs and demands of mainstream manufacturing.
You will be responsible for developing close working relationships with in-house design and engineering teams and your suppliers.
You will be responsible for understanding material requirements and relevant lead times which will ensure continuous and on-time delivery of materials for the production/engineering team.
By fostering excellent relationships with the design and engineering team, you will be able to easily understand any technical changes to the product design and will be able to clearly communicate these changes to your suppliers.
Your role will be responsible for managing material lead times, on-time delivery, material quality and supplier performance.
Your role will be responsible for sourcing and negotiating with new and existing suppliers. You will be particularly responsible for negotiating best supplier pricing during an R&D phase where your business does not currently require high volume material supply.
Upon the final product design being completed, your role will naturally transition from being an NPI buyer and will take on Purchasing Manager responsibility, notably to create a purchasing function capable of meeting the demands of mainstream production.
To be successful in this role
You will be an experienced Strategic Buyer who has supported engineering and design teams throughout the design stages of new products within a manufacturing environment.
You will have experience in MRP purchasing environments and the manufacturing industry.
You will have a strong understanding of BoM's/technical drawings and will be able to interpret these to create meaning material forecasts that will allow continuous and on-time delivery.
You will be a commercial thinker and will be able to foster strong relationships with suppliers that leverages best quality vs best price. You will be an influencer capable of negotiating pricing based on future volume business when the product goes into mainstream production (vs pricing based on low volume purchasing whilst in R&D stage).
You will be looking to progress your career whilst also helping to grow a business after they move out of R&D and become a commercial business.
