Role Description:

The Digital Skills Authority is a private industry-owned industry-led global organisation with a mission and established history of 'Delivering Digital Skills Excellence’. The organisation which has grown organically through the reputation of its founder, trainers, partners, and the testimonials and advocacy from leaders, managers and professionals at well-known organisations around the globe, is now building a diversely skilled board from the Tech giants, industry, media and academia around the globe. The leadership which will operate from a mix of both non-executive and executive board members at its parent company Future Knowledge Ltd, and its subsidiary, will support effective leadership, commitment, and effective governance and oversight of the global organisation. This is an exciting time to join the organisation during a time during which it implements some major objectives from its strategy, including a fully operational international team which can localise and support our growing portfolio of programs in a variety of languages, as well as steer us to achieve to a target of c.£20-million net-profit in 2025 having skilled hundreds of thousands of individuals around the globe. Our organisation is particularly keen to hear from senior level executives from Amazon, Facebook, Twitter, Google and more, as well as those in media, publishing, education and a variety of industries such as retail.

ROLE SUMMARY

  • Deliver expert counsel on specialist areas of expertise
  • Support the development of beneficial strategic alliances
  • Ensure organisation complies with legal responsibilities
  • Support the organisation in championing digital ethics and digital business ethics
  • Ensure portfolio or certification programs are to highest quality, are future-proof and respond to industry skills demand
  • Participate in relevant collaborative committees: Portfolio and Examinations Quality Committee (for example)
  • Non-Executive Directors to provide appropriate oversight, scrutiny and challenge to the Executive leadership team (including their performance in meeting agreed goals and objectives and monitoring the reporting of performance)
  • Act as an ambassador for the Digital Skills Authority, and participate in PR related events and media opportunities (where appropriate)
  • Promote equality and diversity in the organisation
  • As a member of the Board, promote the highest standards of governance and best practice
  • Assess the quality and the integrity of financial, educational and other information presented to the Board
  • Ensure that financial controls and systems of risk management and governance are robust and implemented.
  • Uphold the highest standards of integrity and be a fit and proper person to hold a Directorship (Following the 'The Nolan Principles')
  • Protect the good name and reputation of the Digital Skills Authority

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Highly credible with experience of operating at senior level within an organisation with performance based budgets/complexity gained in the private sector
  • High-level organisational and governance skills e.g. strategic planning, financial management, risk management, organisational performance management and service delivery development;
  • Politically astute - able to grasp relevant issues underpinned by an understanding of developing partnerships and building relationships with other organisations;
  • Experiencing of collaborative working or leadership of transformation, growth or significant change
  • Understands the culture of small business organisations with exposure to a variety of industries
  • Experience in tech, media, publishing and education (adult skills and employment)
