Night Shift Manager - Inverness Mail Centre

Full time

Mail centre Night shift manager

£31,669–£34,290 dependent on relevant experience and location, plus 10% bonus potential and competitive benefits package

Location – Inverness Mail Centre

You don’t need logistics or unionised experience to be an operations manager at Royal Mail. We’re looking for people who can coach, lead and motivate teams to perform at their very best. Our markets are changing fast, and we’re adapting to what the future will bring. If you’re an experienced manager who has the energy and resilience to drive positive change on a big scale, we want to hear from you.

About the role

Our mail centres are the hub of our network, receiving sent mail from pillar boxes and businesses for sorting and distribution. As a shift manager you’ll be responsible for all operations across your shift, leading a team of line managers and engineers. You’ll help drive performance at your site by:

  • Pursuing the achievement of quality, financial, automation and employee targets and objectives
  • Undertaking trend analysis to identify improvement opportunities in specific work areas and teams
  • Supporting line managers with mentoring and one-to-one coaching
  • Developing and overseeing team training plans to make sure learning needs are met

This is a challenging role in a high-tempo environment, balancing the demands of long-term improvement with day-to-day operational control. We’ll look to you to uphold the standards that our customers expect and contribute to the mail centre operating plan.

Hours: Monday-Friday, 22:00-06:00, although flexibility will be required to meet operational needs.

About you

You could be working in any sector – like manufacturing, retail, or FMCG – and keen to apply what you’ve learned to a new environment. You’ll be a quick thinker with a passion for improvement, and a talent for motivation and communication. And you’ll be ready to handle challenging situations and conversations with skill and tact. This isn’t for everyone – but for the right kind of person, it offers huge opportunity for growth and development.

The closing date for applications is 11th February.  Assessment Centres will be taking place between 26th February 2018 and 16th March 2018.

Your start date will be May 2018, with your first 8 weeks spent on a brand new induction programme which will introduce you to your new role and to Royal Mail Group. Please note, the induction programme will be held central location and therefore this may involve some overnight stays.
