National Citizen Service Delivery Provider - Somerset Rural Youth Project (SRYP)
To work as a member of the SRYP Youth Work team on the NCS Programme to deliver work with young people that meets the organisation’s aims and objectives.
To be responsible for leading an NCS group of 12-15 young people (aged 15-17) through the NCS programme.
SRYP delivers NCS across the whole of Somerset. Programme delivery will be from a residential venue, and then a location local to the group of participants
1 To lead a group of 12-15 young people through the NCS programme ensuring that they:
- Take part in residential activities
- Develop team work, communication and leadership skills
- Learning about their own communities
- Plan and run their own social action projects.
2 To lead the development of the group, and to manage the behaviour of the group.
3 To initiate and build positive relationships with young people which are based on value and trust.
4 To lead activities that enhance young people’s skills, confidence, personal and social development.
5 To lead guided reflection activities to support the learning of young people.
6 To assist with keep warm activities to engage young people prior to the programme
7 To keep effective records (e.g. registers, social action project details, financial records) and ensure they are returned to the Wave Leader
8 To positively promote equal opportunities for all young people participating in SRYP youth work sessions and activities
9 To establish a positive working relationship with other NCS staff and volunteers, as an effective team member
10 To adhere to the policies and procedures of Somerset Rural Youth Project, including safeguarding, health and safety and financial regulations
11 To complete other tasks, as directed by the Wave Leader that support young people to successfully complete the NCS programme
Team Leaders will be expected to attend training events (2 x Days) prior to the programme starting
Region/likely locations for base: Somerset.
- Phase 1 on Exmoor; Phase 2 in Trull; Phase 3 locations across the county.
- Salary bracket: £1,350 per programme.
DBS requirement: Appointment subject to a clear enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
NCS Team Leader - Person specification
An ability to engage with young people from a range of backgrounds
A minimum of 1 year experience of working with young people
Experience of working with adults
Experience of residential work
Experience of managing group behaviour
Ability to work within a team
Ability to lead groups
Clean driving licence
First Aid qualifications
Other qualifications relevant to work with young people
Knowledge of appropriate boundaries with young people
Knowledge of the NCS programme
Health and Safety
Issues relevant to young people
Planning programmes with young people
