The Organisation

Established in 1912, our client is a Cambridgeshire charity dedicated to supporting local people of all ages living with low vision and blindness.

They offer a broad range of services including information, advice and advocacy; practical and emotional support; leisure and sports activities; equipment and technology to enhance independence, wellbeing and inclusion.

Our client is looking to recruit a Mobile Unit Lead to oversee their charity community outreach activities.

The Role

In this exciting new role, reporting to the Client Services Manager, you will contribute to our client’s work with people living with the challenges of sight loss in the community.

Operating out of the Chesterton base, you will drive the mobile unit, a purpose-built vehicle carrying a range of low vision aids, equipment and information about services throughout Cambridgeshire.

You will develop and deliver a programme of pop-up sessions at libraries, community centres and other venues, demonstrating low vision items and equipment, providing information and raising awareness of services.

Additionally, as the Mobile Unit Lead, you will:

- Build strong links with the community and seek out new supporters and volunteers for the organisation
- Identify opportunities for networking and partnership working
- Work closely with outreach workers to provide support to people in their own homes
- Attend rural peer support groups to demonstrate items and equipment
- Support fundraising and promotions activities by attending events and supporting activities such as bucket collections

About You

To be considered as a Mobile Unit Lead, you will need:

- To be an engaged and enthusiastic individual who communicates well and thrives on building relationships
- To be flexible and responsive and able to manage your own workload
- A full, valid driving licence

Knowledge of low vision, blindness and low vision equipment would be desirable but not essential as training will be provided. Previous experience in an outreach position is also beneficial.
