MK19249 - LIMS/IT Manager

Applications are invited for a temporary Band 7 LIMS/IT manager post in the Aberdeen Medical Genetics Laboratory. The Aberdeen laboratory is part of the Scottish Genetics Consortium funded by the National Services Division to provide Genetic and Molecular Pathology diagnostic testing in Scotland.

This post is to develop and implement a new LIMS within the department, and take responsibility for project management.  The successful individual will work closely with the Laboratories IT team in the development stages of this project, interfacing the LIMS with existing NHS portals, and with Genetics staff in the specific configuration of the system for use in the Genetics Laboratories.  The individual will be jointly line managed by Heads of Molecular Genetics and Laboratory IT.

Applicants should possess an appropriate Masters degree or degree equivalent or be able to demonstrate relevant specialist knowledge to an equivalent level. A specialist knowledge of operational diagnostic Medical Laboratory Technology and of relevant Information Technology is also required. This will require an in depth specialist knowledge of genetics / laboratory IM&T procedures.

There will be considerable interaction with technologists, scientists and clinical colleagues within the genetics department, and Labs IT, the LIMS provider,  eHealth and other health board IT departments.

A secondment for this post could be considered.
