MK18966 - Consultant Clinical Scientist

The department is the sole provider of services to NHS Grampian (1400 beds) incorporating the teaching hospital Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Aberdeen Royal Maternity Hospital, Aberdeen Royal Children’s Hospital (all on the ARI campus), Woodend Hospital (Elderly; Aberdeen), Cornhill Hospital (Psychiatry; Aberdeen) and Dr Gray’s Hospital (Elgin). The department serves a population of 600,000 people and carries out 9 million tests per annum and also provides specialist advisory services for NHS Orkney and Shetland. The Department of Clinical Biochemistry comes under the umbrella of the Laboratory Medicine Directorate and has a close working relationship with University of Aberdeen Medical School.

We are looking for a highly motivated registered Clinical Scientist to join our existing team of five Clinical Scientists, four Chemical Pathologists and over forty BMS plus other support staff. The post holder will have responsibility for providing and continuously developing a comprehensive, modern and high quality service by the department and assist in the provision of an expert analytical, interpretive and clinical advisory service. This will also include conducting research and service developments along with clinical audit whilst maintaining quality assurance within these and other areas in accordance with UKAS standards.

You will have significant experience in Clinical Biochemistry, be HCPC registered in Clinical Biochemistry and hold Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath) by examination, a first or upper second class honours degree in a relevant science, completion of a nationally accredited Clinical Scientist training programme, a MSc in Clinical Biochemistry or doctorate PhD in relevant field and demonstration of participation and satisfactory achievement in CPD. Post graduate experience in a specialist area would be an advantage and ideally candidates should have experience at a senior professional level. Consideration will also be given to those nearing completion of their FRCPath.
