Description of Role:

A vacancy exists within our Community Midwifery Team in Nithsdale (including Upper Nithsdale) for an enthusiastic, motivated and flexible Midwife Practitioner. The applicant will be providing Antenatal, Intrapartum and Postnatal care within the community setting of Nithsdale and Upper Nithsdale. The post holder will be based at Sanquhar Health Centre. This post is open to Newly Qualified Midwives and Experienced Midwives. This is a small team of 5 midwives, supported by Maternity Care Assistants, covering 6 GP practices. This post includes on call for home births, covering the East region of Dumfries & Galloway. Car driver essential.

The applicant must be a Registered Midwife and have a genuine interest in providing a high standard of person centred care to women and their families who access our service.

We strive to put women and their families at the centre of care and currently have the highest normal birth rate in Scotland. Our birth rate is approximately 1250 per year. All midwives working within Dumfries and Galloway have the opportunity to undertake the SCOTTIE course and Neonatal Resuscitation with the first year of their employment. We are approaching an exciting phase within Dumfries and Galloway due to recent review of Maternity and Neonatal Services, “The Best Start”, and work is already under way to see how best we can implement this within our region.

This post will require the successful applicant to obtain PVG Clearance.

Informal enquires to: Lynda Glover, Senior Charge Midwife/Team Leader for the East Team on.
