The Dance Teacher will work as part of a team of Performing Arts faculty responsible for providing a concept-based performing program that focuses on developing the expression skills, social emotional skills and understanding for developing a lifelong learner. This is a part-time position (approximately 20 hours per week).
Summary of major responsibilities:
- Teach regular Dance lessons to children across grades 5-8 (ages 10-13), and one section of High School Dance
- Assist in the development of a sound research-based Dance curriculum
- Plan and deliver a program of concept-based experiences that enhances students’ holistic development
- Communicate and liaise on a regular basis with fellow team department/grade members with regards to planning, assessment, parent and community contact, subject organization and classroom issues including discipline, expectations and routines
- Communicate and liaise with other school colleagues in an effort to promote and establish integrative links and/or awareness
- Map the curriculum on ASL's Atlas Rubicon program
- Attend and contribute constructively in staff and department meetings
- Maintain up-to-date records of assessment, attendance, planning, reports, conferences, and communication with parents
- Establish links with our parent community to ensure that parents are kept well informed about student progress
- Participate in ongoing professional development related to new developments in the field
- Perform any other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the Middle School Principal
- A bachelor's degree in Dance, education, or other related field
- Substantive experience as a Dance teacher
- Experience in a school with a similar teaching philosophy to that of ASL, which employs comparable teaching methods and curricula, or to have received training that will adequately prepare the candidate for the American style of teaching required by the School.
- Significant recent professional development
- Excellent computer skills and integration of technology into the curriculum
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Outstanding collaborative skills and a desire to work in a team-focused environment
- The ability to contribute towards a safe environment and show a personal commitment to safeguarding children.
- Master’s degree or significant progress towards completion
- Previous teaching experience in K-12 settings
