The Methodologies and Assumptions (M&A) team in Finance management are responsible for ensuring there is a robust internal Finance review and challenge on the M&As used across the various financial reporting metrics, and that M&As are in place and fit for purpose.  The Methodology and Assumptions Actuary will act as key support to the Senior Methodology & Assumptions Actuaries and the Head of Methodology and Assumptions.  The role holder will be primarily responsible for providing technical analysis and insight, delivering accurate and timely documentation, and inputting into recommendations for senior stakeholders.  The focus of the role is that of a technical specialist who will contribute to the review of material assumptions and methodologies, identifying gaps or constraints, developing solutions and providing advice and insight.  He or she may also be asked to manage relationships with wider Finance or Risk teams, including maintaining momentum on key areas of debate.

The role requires a qualified actuary who has practical experience across a range of Finance specialisms, including some expertise in actuarial methodologies and assumptions


Purpose of the role:

·         To contribute to regular and ad hoc reviews of material assumptions and methodologies

·     To provide advice on application of methodology and assumptions principles and tools to identify and solve complex problems

·     To lead on the application of appropriate controls and processes within the technical analysis performed in the team

·     To develop relationships with other key Finance and Risk teams,  co-ordinating

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Understanding of Prudential’s internal governance and control structures
  • Knowledge of developments in methodology and assumption setting
  • Knowledge of Prudential products, systems and distribution methods
  • Understanding the Statements of Principle and Code of Practice
  • Knowledge of life and pensions products, markets and competitors
  • Knowledge of financial services regulatory and legislative frameworks within methodologies and assumptions applied
  • Experience of monitoring compliance with Prudential’s actuarial policies and standards
  •  Experience of providing advice on actuarial issues, based upon the analysis of primary data.
  • Experience of considering the impact on various financial metrics of changes in methodologies, assumptions or experience.
  •  Experience of approaching complex issues from different angles, explaining the cause and effect of situations
  • Experience of coordinating activities outside of own team to ensure the needs of business stakeholders are met
  • Detailed understanding of Prudential's internal governance and control structures
  • Knowledge of the latest developments in assumption-setting
  • Knowledge of Prudential products, systems and distribution methods
  • Knowledge of life and pensions products, markets and competitors
  • Knowledge of financial services regulatory and legislative frameworks
  • Awareness of Group and external developments and ability to identify, recommend and implement improvements to processes and policies in line with these
  • Understanding of the drivers of Prudential's key risks
