Mental Health Liaison Nurse Practitioner

Posted 18 September by NHS Business Services Authority

The Liaison Mental Health Teams bring together integrated multidisciplinary teams of mental health liaison practitioners specialising in general psychiatry, deliberate self-harm and old age psychiatry so that all patients over the age of sixteen can be assessed and treated, signposted or referred appropriately.

As a clinician working within the service you will be expected to work with a wide range of patients presenting with mental health needs in A&E or on a ward. You will be able to confidently assess risk and formulate discharge plans. You will also be working closely with hospital clinicians and managers to ensure timely assessment and interventions. Your decision-making, communication and negotiation skills will need to be well-developed as you will be the interface between the general hospital and mental health services

As a learning area we provide placements for student nurses, medical students, trainee doctors and clinical psychologists. An expectation of all Liaison team members is the ability to provide teaching and training for general hospital staff.

Liaison Mental Health can be challenging but also very rewarding. As a successful applicant you will be joining an established and supportive team which is developing a Core 24 Model

We currently have vacancies for five band 6 nurses to develop the team towards Core 24 standards.

The Liaison Mental health team is based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Shrewsbury, Shropshire. The team provides a 24 hour service and shift work is required.
