Our client is a market leader specialising within the heavy industrial minerals processing and manufacturing sector. Located at a flagship facility on the Cheshire/Derbyshire borders, the Mechanical Reliability and Maintenance Manager will be responsible from a mechanical (and not electrical perspective) for the reliability and maintenance support of assets including cranes, kilns, conveyors, crushers and screening plant, washing, slurry and sand plants, loading facilities, grinding facilities, hydrating plants, mills, pneumatics, hydraulics, HV drives.

The Role:

The post of Mechanical Reliability and Maintenance Manager is a high-profile role which will provide direction, leadership and support to the reliability team at our client’s production facility, working within stringent KPI and performance indicators. You will take the reliability function on a strategic and operational journey to a more proactive reliability focused culture. The emphasis will be on operational excellence and safety. You will work closely with colleagues in engineering, asset optimisation, plant management, electrical, lean CI, health and safety functions and HR and outsourced engineering services partners.

Your primary responsibility will be to identify and manage mechanical asset reliability risks that could adversely affect the processing facility and business performance. This will include loss elimination, risk management and life cycle asset management (LCAM). You will track production losses and abnormally high maintenance cost assets, finding solutions to reduce losses or high costs. You will prioritise your efforts to focus on the largest and most critical opportunities. Working in full partnership with the processing/production operations team you will develop a plan to eliminate and reduce losses through root cause analysis, obtain approval including CAPEX approval of the plan and then facilitate implementation of the plan.

In addition, the Mechanical Reliability and Maintenance Manager will eliminate risk to ensure the achievement of organisation strategic objectives in terms of environmental health and safety, asset capability, quality and production. You will be familiar with utilising tools such as FMEA, PHA, CA, SFMEA, FTA, ETA.

The Mechanical Reliability and Maintenance Manager will also be involved in the design and installation stages of projects for new assets and modifications of existing assets.

The Ideal Applicant:

Applications are invited from graduate calibre, degree educated Engineering professionals with a strong track record in mechanical engineering and mechanical maintenance. You will also possess a NEBOSH certificate or QCF Level 4 in Safety Management. Applicants with a background within quarrying and accordingly Chartered Membership of the Institute of Quarrying and up to date CPD would be particularly advantageous but is not essential. Most importantly you will be highly adept at leading, coaching and developing a team of engineering reliability and maintenance professionals. A track record of mindset and behavioural change to meet stretch goals would be particularly relevant. This experience should ideally have been gained within a heavy engineering or quarrying environment. Proven experience in change projects and delivery of engineering projects ideally within a lean manufacturing CI environment would be preferable. Innovative and creative and with a strategic mindset, your career to date will be characterised by progressive and consistent success within engineering, reliability and maintenance. As this is a very high profile and key role within the facility you will be familiar with engaging, influencing and presenting to stakeholders at all levels on site and at HO.
