Job Title: Mechanical (/ Electrical) Technician

The Estates Department at Chapel Allerton and Seacroft Hospital is looking to appoint a motivated individual to its Engineering team.

The post will be based at Chapel Allerton and Seacroft Hospitals but in times of need the successful candidate may be required to support colleagues at other sites within the Leeds NHS Trust.

The ideal applicant needs to hold a full driving licence and have a Mechanical Engineering background.

Experience in: Fault finding, Building Management Systems and Environmental Controls, machine repair, hot and cold water systems, heating systems and ventilation systems is recommended.

Skills in: Mechanical fitting, Welding, fabrication, machine shop, general plumbing would be advantageous.  

The role is an integral part of the Estates Operations team and as such the successful candidate will also be expected to support colleagues of other trades including electrical and building crafts.

Planned and reactive maintenance duties are undertaken daily in a hospital environment and participation in an out of hours, on-call emergency response rota will be required. 

The Trust requires high standards of maintenance to support the patient experience.

The successful applicant should be self-motivated and have an assured confidence in their abilities. Enthusiastic individuals who take pride in their work and understand the importance a hospital provides to a community are the type of individuals the Trust looks to recruit into its work teams. The ability to work as part of a team, work alone, demonstrate good communication skills and behaviours at all times is essential to this role.

Types of Essential Qualifications;

  • Appropriate Apprenticeship
  • Appropriate HND/HNC or
  • Appropriate City and Guilds or
  • Appropriate NVQ Level 3 or 4  
  • Appropriate Equivalent experience.

Demonstrable competencies in the following:

  • Water Safety
  • Pressure Systems
  • Ventilation
  • Health and Safety

Essential Experience and Skills

  • 2 Years post Apprenticeship experience

Desirable Experience and Skills

  • Experience of working in an Acute Hospital Environment
  • Awareness of Heath Technical Memorandums
  • Enthusiasm for personal development through training
